Who is Jane Boire?

I am currently on an unpaid sabbatical to travel and explore Europe. I am living in Mons, Belgium and continuing my professional development through French language courses. My current goal is to continue my International teaching experience, but I may return to Ontario to resume my permanent position in September 2009. Last year I taught grade 7/8 Science at Colegio Granadino in Manizales, Colombia where it was my pleasure contributing to Making the Difference.

Since 2004, I have been teaching Family Studies at North Dundas District High School in Chesterville Ontario. North Dundas is dedicated to providing a learning environment where their teachers and students work together to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values necessary to meet the challenges and suceed in a rapidly changing world. My university background in the Earth Sciences exemplifies the holistic approach I take in all aspects of my life. Geology aims to understand large-scale systems in order to explain why things are the way they are. In keeping with this curiosity, I continue to relate my lessons in Family Studies to the "bigger picture" using a multidisciplinary approach and practical experiences that relate to the real-world. Before starting my teaching career, I spent several years in the workforce as a Web programmer. As a result, I understand the rapidly changing world our teens are entering as they graduate from high school and make every effort to ensure that they are prepared for it.

This online portfolio is a dynamic version of my professional portfolio maintained throughout my teaching journey. Currently this web site is partially under construction, but my resume is up-to-date and available for download! The "Philosophies" section contains my personal reflections on the theories of education. The "In Practice" section focuses on my experience in the classroom and includes sample lessons, pictures and more.
